Super Veto Powers of The World.

Who are they and what do they really stand for?

Who they are.

World super powers are countries known and recognized over the world as extremely powerful countries with the ability to determine the day to day running affairs and major economics of the world through their foreign policies. These are countries who constantly project their influence on the world stage in the news. These countries have Gross Domestic Products (GDPs) of over One Trillion Dollars each making their GDP per capita to exceed Ten Thousand US Dollars.

Super powers are grouped into two; the post WWII super powers and those that emerged afterwards. This post would dwell more on the post WWII super powers.

These are countries who gained their powers according to the Oppenheim's International Law, United Nations which states that " Permanent membership in the security council was granted to five states based on their importance in the aftermath of WWII". These five states or countries that got the permanent memberships are; United States, Soviet Union(Russia), United Kingdom, France and China. Some may ask why Germany is not on the list and the answer to that according to the Oppenheim law is very simple because Nazi Germany lead by Adolf Hitler actually caused the second world war.

The role of these countries can not in anyway be underestimated since they played very important roles which lead to the surrender of Adolf Hitler and subsequently ending the second world war.

Why are they classified as super powers?

These permanent members on the UN security council have gotten extra powers vested in them to VETO certain decisions made by the council in their favour. These powers enables them to decide and determine as and when certain actions should be taken by the UN. Since the powers were vested in these countries, the country that have exercised these powers the least number of times is France, 16 times followed by China, 17 times also followed by the UK, 29 with the highest being the US and Russia who have used their veto power for 82 and 120 times respectively. This data was as of February 2022

The recent country to use it's veto powers is Russia when a resolution written by the United States and Albania condemning Russia's actions in Ukraine failed in the security council on Friday, 25th day of February 2022 due to Russia applying it's veto powers.

Some other countries emerging as potential super powers are Germany, Japan, South Korea, North Korea, India, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. This is mainly because of the possession of nuclear weapons by some of these countries and the others with their outstanding economic fortunes.

But do the world really need super powers?

I think the answer is NO.

Super powers of today are engaged in a power play in a form of a cold war in an attempt to prove who's more powerful. This is one of the main reasons why instability is now the order of the day. Countries like Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Somalia, Ethiopia and Ukraine are experiencing war simply because of the mascinations of these so called super power. They support conflicts with weapons delivered to their allies in war zones to take innocent human lives in exchange for power. This is unacceptable and I know you agree with me on this.

Of late, the region has been a major hotspot when it comes to wars and conflicts across the globe. Tensions have been high in most areas of the region for several years and some of the main causes are Power, Control Over Oil and sometimes Religion. The Iraq invasion of Kuwait on Au...

Why The West Is Against Communism

Origin Communism is a political and economic system in which the state owns the means of production, but the citizens are allocated goods and services in a fair and equal manner. The term communism derives from the Latin word communis, which means "common". The communist manifesto was written in 1848 by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Brief history The communist system of government started with the formation of the Soviet Union which started from 1917. During this period the country was led by Joseph Stalin who ruled the USSR from 1917 to 1953. Currently communism is still the system of government practiced in modern day Cuba, Vietnam Laos and China as well. The whole ideology was developed in the 19th century as a political and economic theory. The real deal The West has always been against communism, and has been consistently trying to stop communism from spreading. However, the West's opposition to communism is not quite as clear as it seems. The West's oppositio...

Why did Russia attack Ukraine?

It's been five days since Russia invaded Ukraine, fighting has since been going on between soldiers of both countries. Major landmarks in major cities of Ukraine have been taken down, civilian structures destroyed and some civilians killed. The question most people seek to ask is; What actually called for this war?  The North Atlantic Threaty Organization, NATO, was formed after the second world war by the United States , Canada,  England, Germany, France and some other European countries just to mention a few. Their main aim was to unite and stop a Soviet Union which kept on growing and gaining more power in Asia and some parts of Europe. This made it clear that NATO members were outright enemies of the Soviet Union and vice versa.  Fast forward in April 1961 when the Nazis have already surrended after WWII, the United States invaded Cuba, a sovereign country. Their reason was that Cuba, their neighbour had formed a Communist Government which makes them align to the Sovi...
